Ceramics 2 Coil Vessel

Image
Coil Vessel Insert post construction photo: Describe what you liked about the coil process of building: I really enjoyed the process of blending the coils together because it was nice to see how my piece was coming along. I also thought it was really therapeutic and satisfying to see two difference coils combine together into one unified substance. Describe your frustrations: While building this piece, I found it hard to keep it perfectly in line with my template. This vessel was a lot bigger than previous ceramic pieces I've made, so I found it harder to work with over a long period of time. Since some parts were shrinking, it was hard to keep a constant shape throughout the entirety of this process, however, I do think that I managed to keep the shape relatively fitting to the template. Did your original idea change? If yes what changes occured? No, this was my original idea. How could you have constructed better? I think the size of my elevated foot wa...

Woven Bowl Blog Post Construction Photo 1: Entire piece Photo 2: Rim/finish ^^above picture Photo 3: Detail Reflection:   Describe what you enjoyed about the weaving technique. While weaving, I really enjoyed the process after getting started because I could start to see everything come together. It was honestly really therapeutic to see the weave start to form in the way that I wanted to. Once I got into the groove of things, weaving became much easier. It felt so good to be done with the weave and look back and see what I had made. What did you find difficult in the construction process and why? I felt that starting off the weave was really hard because you had to have the clay right in the middle and make sure that you pulled the strips back enough. I found this really challenging because it was really tedious to make everything straight and in line with one another. Finishing the piece off was also kind of hard because we had to curve th...

FINAL - Semester Reflection

Final Blog Reflection Unit 1: Slab Construction (Box) Photo: Never having a ceramics class before, what were your first impressions of the class through this project? Starting off in this class, I was really amazed. I found that everything moved at a really nice pace that I was able to keep up with. It instantly became my favorite class, one that I could look forward to coming to every other day. When I first came in, I was taken aback at how many different techniques there were. That being said, I think that we were able to ease into this unit very easily, and I was given just the right about of help to make this piece. This project familiarized me with all the techniques I would be using throughout this semester, so I think that it prepared me really well. Unit 2: Coil Construction (Greek Vessel) Photo: P rior to starting this project, what were your doubts prior to creating? Before starting this project, I had seen all the exemplars. I was really intim...

Tripod Mug

Tripod mug Pre Fired Photo: Construction What skills, techniques, or process did you employ to create your mug? I used the technique of undulating a slab. I started off with a slab, and then made it into a cylinder. I pinched feet and then undulated the slab. Then I had to pull a handle. I used little balls of clay to fill in the holes at the bottom of the mug (the feet). After that, I used the texture tool to make texture on the lower half of my piece. Finally, I used the lip finishing tool to finish the piece. How does your final construction look? Also describe the difficulties in construction. I'm really happy with my final construction. I feel like it turned out pretty even, and the texture looked really good. My handle also curved really well and added an element of more undulation to my piece. I had a hard time trying to get my piece symmetrical, but I used the wheel to go to eye level and then tried to make it as symmetrical as I could. Glazing Pr...

CONSTRUCTION Photo of the vessel that you based your work on Sample Sketch Vessel name and description: Korean Ceramics What do you like about the shape and form? I think that the shape is really unique and it's very different from other culture's vessels. It also is very subtle, and I think that it makes it look very sophisticated. The lip is very unique and so is are the handles and the glazing. Greenware Photo Construction Reflection Do you feel that you have a good grasp of the coil technique? I really understand how to use coils to make a vessel, and I think I can apply these techniques to other pieces I do. I understand how to blend, stack, layer, and compress the coils into a form that I like. What area did you struggle in constructing your vessel? I struggles in making my piece symmetrical, as sometimes my piece was too dry to change the shape of to match my template. I also found that I needed some assistance on constructing the lip, alth...
