Ceramics 2 Final Blog This blog’s purpose is to reflect on what skills, techniques, life lessons you have learned in this course.  As a teacher, I am looking for growth and dedication to your work. Textile: Woven Clay Bowl Photo: Reflection Techniques used: While making this bowl, I used the weaving technique. This was done by laying down strips and coils in an altering fashion. I also used slipping and scoring to attach the rim of my bowl. The rim was made out of braiding coils and the rose was made by using water to thin out the petals and then blending them together. I also used the sponge off sponge on method to glaze the base of my bowl, as you can see the blue peeking through from the white. Overall, I am really happy with the outcome of my bowl. There were a few roadblocks I hit, like when one of my strips broke, but I think that I was able to recover and make my piece look good. I especially like the glazing! Terms a...

Construction: A Detail: A Balance: A Glazing: A Explain your self-assessment below. For construction, I think that I was able to make the fish look realistic. The shape looks undulated and I tried to give the fins some motion, along with the shape of the tail. For detail, I think that my scales look really uniform, and I also added gills. I also think the layering of the different sections on the head adds lots of dimension to my fish. I also added nostrils to make the fish look more lifelike. For balance, however, my tail was a bit of an issue. Before firing it, it was able to stand up on its own. Because of this, I think that the balance in the tail was actually correct, just that while being fired it shrunk unevenly, making it uncontrollable on my part. My other fish pi...

Coil Vessel Insert post construction photo: Describe what you liked about the coil process of building: I really enjoyed the process of blending the coils together because it was nice to see how my piece was coming along. I also thought it was really therapeutic and satisfying to see two difference coils combine together into one unified substance. Describe your frustrations: While building this piece, I found it hard to keep it perfectly in line with my template. This vessel was a lot bigger than previous ceramic pieces I've made, so I found it harder to work with over a long period of time. Since some parts were shrinking, it was hard to keep a constant shape throughout the entirety of this process, however, I do think that I managed to keep the shape relatively fitting to the template. While weaving, I really enjoyed the process after getting started because I could start to see everything come together. It was honestly really therapeutic to see the weave start to form in the way that I wanted to. Once I got into the groove of things, weaving became much easier. It felt so good to be done with the weave and look back and see what I had made. What did you find difficult in the construction process and why? I felt that starting off the weave was really hard because you had to have the clay right in the middle and make sure that you pulled the strips back enough.
