Box & Whisker Plots
F BLOCK B BLOCK

1) How was the data similar? The data is similar because they both have an outlier of 180 minutes, and you can see that because there is one dot on each box and whisker plot that is at the 180 minutes mark. 2) What was different in the 2 sets of data? The B block set of data doesn’t have a maximum, and the plot is skewed to the bottom, whereas the F block set of data is skewed in the middle. They are also different because the 5 points of data are ALL different. For example, the Q2 (median)’s distance to the Q1 and Q3 of the data set is different. 3) Were there any outliers? Yes, there were outliers. In the F block data set, there were 180 minutes as an outlier, and for B block there were multiple: 120, 135, and 180 minutes. 4) Which class spends longer on their homework? PROVE IT! The data shows that F block spends more time with their homework because the whole graph is skewed to the middle, whereas B block is skewed to the bottom, meaning that B block spends less time on their homework. Most of F block’s 5 points of data is always above B block’s amount of homework. The median and mode of B block is also less than F block’s median and mode, therefore F block spends more time on their homework.
